Special Education – Transition:
IDEA 2004 was signed into law by President Bush on December 4, 2004.
Address needed transition services not later than the 1st IEPC when the student turns 16. That means most 15 year old students may require a transition plan if they turn 16 before their next IEPC. NEW – “appropriate measurable postsecondary goals based upon age appropriate transition assessments related to training, education, employment, and, where appropriate, independent living skills.” Most local school districts in Berrien County have chosen to use the Enderle-Severson Transition Rating Scale as their transition assessment.
- Transition services (including courses of study) needed to assist the child in reaching those goals. This is covered by the EDP (Educational Development Plan) which is required for all students starting in the 7th grade.
